Welcome to TMCOps, the transportation management operations technician (TMOT) position description creation tool.
This site was created to assist TMC managers and administrators who are responsible for analyzing staffing requirements, preparing position descriptions, developing training plans, and determining selection criteria. The major sections of the tool are described below.
This tool is largely based on the work of a previous FHWA project in which a document entitled Guidelines for TMC TMOT Staff Development was developed. This document has been revised and updated for TMCOps, and is now referred to as TMC Operator Requirements and Position Descriptions. This document and a supplemental document, Selected TMC Position Descriptions, are available in the Background Documentation section.
The Tutorials section contains ten tutorials that provide additional information on tool-related topics, beyond that available in the background documentation. The information contained in the tutorials can help you use the tool more effectively.
In the Interactive Dialog section, you can characterize your TMC of interest in terms of the functions and tasks performed by the TMC, view the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) necessary to perform those functions and tasks, and generate output products such as position descriptions, training plans, and lists of testable skills.
On the List of Functions and Tasks page, you can view a list of all of the TMC functions and tasks that were derived in the TMC Operator Requirements and Position Descriptions document, as well as any additional functions and tasks you created in the interactive dialog.
In addition to the sections described above, the tool also includes a glossary and list of acronyms, a site search engine, and a help system in which you can view detailed information on how to use the tool. You can access any section of the tool at any time by clicking on the links in the navigation bar on the left side of the page.
