Background Documentation

This tool is based on the work of a previous FHWA project in which a document entitled Guidelines for TMC TMOT Staff Development was developed. The document has been updated and revised for TMCOps, and is now referred to as TMC Operator Requirements and Position Descriptions. Twelve sample position descriptions that were used in the earlier project are contained in the Selected TMC Position Descriptions document. These documents are available in the Background Documentation section of the tool, and can be viewed by browsing or by downloading.

Browsing

Browsing refers to viewing a document as a series of HTML pages on the TMCOps Web site. When you click on the browse link for one of the documents, the table of contents for the selected document will be displayed. Click on any section title in the table of contents to view that section. Each page of the document has Previous and Next links at the bottom to allow navigation through the pages of the document. Each page of the document also has a Table of Contents link that will display the table of contents for the document.

Downloading

Downloading the documents involves viewing the documents as PDF files, with the option to save the PDF files on your computer so that they can be viewed offline. To view the PDF files, you must have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. Click on the "Get Adobe Reader" graphic below to open the Adobe Web site in a new browser window, and follow the instructions on that Web site to obtain the Adobe Reader.

Get Adobe Reader

Once the Adobe Reader is installed, when you click on a download link with the PDF icon next to it, the PDF version of the document will be displayed in your browser. You can then save the document by clicking on the save icon in the PDF browser controls. If you wish to save a PDF file without first opening it, right click on a download link and select the "Save As..." command from the popup menu. (The exact wording of the Save As... command varies from browser to browser.)
