Navigation

There are several different ways to navigate inside the TMCOps tool, including the left navigation bar, page navigation controls, and the interactive dialog progress indicator.

Use of the Back and Forward buttons on the browser toolbar (as well as keyboard shortcuts like Backspace that access the same functionality) is discouraged on tool pages that accept user input. If you use these controls, you may receive warnings from your browser stating that the page has expired. Pressing the browser’s Refresh button will regenerate the page, but some user inputs may be lost.

Certain tool pages, such as pages within the interactive dialog, certain account and profile management pages, and warning pages, cannot be accessed directly (from a bookmark, or by typing the specific page URL into the browser). If you attempt to access these pages directly, a warning message will be displayed. Instead, you should use the links provided by the tool to access these pages.

Left Navigation Bar

The standard TMCOps left navigation bar contains links to the major top-level pages in the tool: Home, Search, Interactive Dialog, Tutorials, Background Documentation, Glossary, List of Acronyms, List of Functions and Tasks, and Help. Clicking on any of these links loads the associated page into the browser, with the exception of the Help link, which loads the help system into a new browser window. In addition to the navigation controls, controls for account and profile management (Log In or Log Out, Change Password, Profile Management, Save, and Save As) are also located in the standard left navigation bar.

The left navigation bar for the help system has a different appearance and a different set of links. The Help link loads the top level help page. The other links (Accessibility, Account Management, Background Documentation, Glossary and List of Acronyms, Interactive Dialog, List of Functions and Tasks, Navigation, Profiles, Quick Reference Guide, Searching, Tool Outputs, and Tutorials) link to the major top-level help pages. The account and profile management controls do not appear in the help left navigation bar.

Page Navigation Controls

Page navigation controls, when present, are located at the bottom center of the page. There are three types of controls that can appear: Previous links, Next links, and Return links.

The Previous link appears when the page you are viewing is part of an ordered sequence of pages (unless you are on the first page in the series), and is denoted by a Left pointing arrow that serves as the icon for Previous links. icon. Clicking on a Previous link takes you to the previous page in the series.

The Next link appears when the page you are viewing is part of an ordered sequence of pages (unless you are on the last page in the series), and is denoted by a Right pointing arrow that serves as the icon for Next links. icon. Clicking on a Next link takes you to the next page in the series.

Return links appear when the page you are viewing is a subpage to a hierarchy of pages, and is denoted by a Arrow pointing up and to the left that serves as the icon for Return links. icon. Clicking on a Return link takes you to a page that is one level up in the hierarchy of pages. The text next to the Return icon varies on each page and identifies the page that will be displayed when the link is selected.

For example, if you are viewing a page in the middle of the TMC Operator Requirements and Job Descriptions document, all three page navigation controls appear at the bottom of the page. Clicking on Previous displays the numerically previous section of the document, while clicking on Next displays the numerically next section of the document. Clicking on Table of Contents displays the Table of Contents for the document, from which any page in the document can be directly selected.

Interactive Dialog Progress Indicator

The interactive dialog progress indicator appears at the top of most pages in the interactive dialog section of TMCOps. The primary purpose of the progress indicator is to provide a graphical display of how much of the required portion of the interactive dialog has been completed and how much remains. The progress indicator for the full dialog shows the five major steps of the full dialog: Select Functions, Select Composite Tasks, Select Discrete Tasks, KSA List, and Select Output Products. The progress indicator for the streamlined dialog shows the four major steps of the streamlined dialog: Select Functions, Select Discrete Tasks, KSA List, and Select Output Products.

In the full dialog, the progress indicator also allows direct navigation to each of the five major steps. You can click on the text or the adjacent circles to navigate directly to the first page in each step of the full dialog. The streamlined dialog progress indicator is not clickable, because the logic used to streamline the dialog requires that all of the pages in the dialog be completed sequentially.
